Abstract

The development of technology and the film industry has had a positive impact on the advancement of cinematographic works in Indonesia. However, on the other hand, it has also increased the occurrence of copyright infringements such as piracy, duplication, and illegal distribution of films. These conditions cause both economic and moral losses for film producers as copyright holders. The research method used is normative legal research with a statutory and conceptual approach, based on primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively using descriptive methods. The results indicate that legal protection for film producers under the Copyright Law includes preventive protection carried out through copyright registration, security technology, website blocking, and strict contracts, as well as repressive protection through the imposition of civil and criminal sanctions against copyright infringers. However, in practice, law enforcement against copyright infringement of cinematographic works still faces various challenges, such as low public legal awareness, weak supervision, difficulties in enforcing laws against digital piracy, and the limited capacity of law enforcement officers to monitor copyright violations in digital media. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen regulations and coordination among law enforcement agencies, enhance digital supervision, and increase public awareness regarding the importance of copyright protection in order to provide more effective legal protection for film producers.
