This study investigates the impact of adding a groundstrap to the ignition coil of a four-stroke engine, with a focus on copper wire variations of 1mm and 0.80mm in diameter. The coil’s performance was assessed by measuring spark jump distances and engine performance metrics, including power and torque at various RPM levels. The results show that using a copper groundstrap leads to varying effects on spark jump distances and engine performance. At RPM 1000, the groundstrap with 1mm copper exhibited a shorter spark jump (11.5mm) compared to the standard coil (15mm), but at higher RPMs (2000-4000), the performance improved, reaching a maximum spark jump of 16mm. The study suggests that groundstraps can significantly enhance engine performance by improving ignition efficiency, particularly at higher RPMs.
