Abstract

Salak sidampuan (Salacca sumatrana Becc.) is a superior horticultural commodity in South Tapanuli Regency, possessing high economic value and serving as a primary source of income for the community. However, the productivity of snake fruit plants in Pokenjior Village remains suboptimal due to low plant maintenance intensity, lack of balanced fertilization, and limited farmer knowledge of good cultivation techniques. This community service activity aims to improve farmers' knowledge and understanding of techniques for maintaining healthy, abundantly fruiting snake fruit plants. The activity was held on May 7, 2026, in Pokenjior Village, East Angkola District, South Tapanuli Regency, targeting snake fruit farmers, members of farmer groups, and community members with snake fruit plantations. The methods used included lectures, discussions, question and answer sessions, and field demonstrations through a participatory approach. The material presented covered land clearing, reducing post-harvest bunches, balanced fertilization, and thinning of fruit and bunches. The results showed that participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the entire series of activities and experienced an increased understanding of snake fruit maintenance techniques. Participants also demonstrated their commitment to implementing the socialized maintenance practices in their respective gardens. This activity positively contributed to increasing farmer capacity, which is expected to support sustainable improvements in the productivity and quality of Salak Sidimpuan fruit.
