PENINGKATAN KOMPETENSI GURU DALAM MEMAHAMI KARAKTER SISWA SMKN 4 MALANG MELALUI METODE PELATIHAN INTERAKTIF

Abstract

The numerous news stories about violence in the mass media today seem to reinforce the need to examine and understand a person's character. To develop character, one method that can be applied is through character education. Character education requires emotional skills and a deep understanding of the psychological dynamics of students, especially for Vocational High School (SMK) students. Character education helps SMK students become individuals who are not only competent in their fields, but also possess high morals and work ethics, so that students are able to contribute positively to society and the world of work. This community service activity was held at SMKN 4 Malang. A total of 104 teachers from various departments attended the activity. This activity was conducted through interactive training consisting of material presentation, discussion, case studies, and joint reflection. Through this activity, teachers gained a better understanding of student character based on the experiences they often encounter in the classroom. To assess the effectiveness of this training activity, the committee administered pre- and post-tests to all participants. The test results showed that most participants experienced an increase in understanding after participating in the training activities. Viewed from a quantitative perspective, there was an increase in the average score from 82.63 in the pre-test to 92.50 in the post-test. This means there was a 9.87-point increase after the activity. This increase is quite significant and indicates that the material can be understood and absorbed well by the participants.
